Cardiff’s festive schedule hit by covid outbreaks

Cardiff have seen both United Rugby Championship Welsh derbies fixtured for the festive period postponed due to covid-19 outbreaks within squads.

The Boxing Day clash at home to the Scarlets bit the dust after members of the Blue and Blacks were struck down leaving Dai Young unable to field a team, before the Dragons were hit meaning the New Year’s Day game at Rodney Parade could not go ahead.

These games will now be re-arranged with possible gaps in the calendar either on Six Nations weekends or on European knockout weekends dependent on the progress of the relevant teams in either the Heineken Champions Cup or European Challenge Cup.

The Rags have also seen their fixture list disrupted as an outbreak in the Pontypridd squad meant the Indigo Group Premiership game scheduled for the 27th December has been postponed. Steve Law’s men are yet to play a Premiership game this season after the fixtures against Swansea and Llanelli were postponed due to first-team call-ups.
