Cardiff have added seven new players to their registered squad for the Heineken Champions Cup squad to ensure the games against Toulouse and Harlequins can go ahead over the next two weeks.

Five of them are familiar faces, with four coming from the Rags semi-professional squad. Alun Rees, 29, is a hooker who re-joined the Blue and Blacks ahead of this season from Llandovery, having played for the club in 2013/14, and has made three appearances so far, while fellow hooker Evan Yardley, 28, has 21 appearances since joining the club in the summer of 2019 from RGC.

24-year-old Alex Everett is a blindside flanker who can also play at number eight or lock and has made 29 appearances since joining the club out of Cardiff University in 2019, captaining the Rags on a number of occasions this season, while Tom Habberfield is the 29-year-old scrum-half who played 135 times for the Ospreys before switching to the capital in 2019. He has 16 games under his belt but has yet to feature this season.

The final familiar face is Rowan Jenkins, the 30-year-old loosehead prop who plays for Aberavon but joined the Cardiff first-team on a short-term professional deal last winter as injury cover, featuring once in a Cardiff A game against Dragons A at Ystrad Mynach. He was named the best loosehead in the Indigo Group Premiership for the 2019/20 campaign.

Also registered are Jenkins’ club-mate Geraint James, a 30-year-old tighthead prop who joined Aberavon from Neath in 2017, and Cardiff Met loosehead prop Joe Cowell, a 19-year-old who previously played age grade rugby for the Dragons and has been a regular for the Archers in BUCS Super Rugby this season.
