Cardiff & Vale College secure maiden Final appearance

Cardiff & Vale College will play in the WRU College League Final at the Principality Stadium on Wednesday 8th December after securing top spot in the Cup table.

Martyn Fowler’s men had to battle back the hard way against Cardiff pathway rivals Coleg y Cymoedd at Sardis Road, with the hosts taking an early 14-3 lead, but tries from Lucas de la Rua, Harrison James and a second half brace from seren-y-gem Will Hawker secured the bonus point.

That puts CAVC clear at the top of the table with three wins from their three games in this phase of the competition, five points ahead of Coleg Gwent who have played all four of their games. Cymoedd could still join them in the Final, but will need to beat Llandovery College with a bonus point, prevent their opponents from gaining any league points and ensure their points difference margin is better than Gwent’s.

Cardiff & Vale, meanwhile, face a victory parade game against Gower College, although speaking to S4C’s Rygbi Pawb after Wednesday’s game Fowler was keen to stress that he wanted to finish this fixture block unbeaten.

Elsewhere, in the Plate competition Ysgol Glantaf moved up to second place with a 47-33 win over Newport High School at The Wern, and in the Bowl there was a first win of the season for Whitchurch High who secured a 0-24 victory over Bridgend College.
