Fish retirement lasts seven days as Cardiff name changed 23 for Dragons derby

Cardiff director of rugby Dai Young has been forced to call on the wider squad for this weekend’s derby against the Dragons, 5.15pm kick-off on Saturday.

The Blue and Blacks are missing 10 players who are in camp with the Wales national team ahead of the Autumn Internationals, while Rhys Gill, James Botham, Josh Navidi and Mason Grady continue to be sidelined, and Jason Tovey and Aled Summerhill both miss out due to covid protocols.

There are eight changes to the starting XV that took the field in last weekend’s win over Sharks as Corey Domachowski, Matthew Screech and James Ratti all come in for internationals, with a back row reshuffle seeing Will Boyde move to the openside flank so Ratti can start at number eight.

Lloyd Williams, Jarrod Evans, Max Llewellyn and Rey Lee-Lo form a new three-quarter line with last week’s starters all in camp too, while Hallam Amos is the back three addition as Jason Harries retains his spot after being a late call-up before the win over Sharks.

There are some new faces on the bench as Will Davies-King, Ellis Bevan and Garyn Smith prepare for their first appearances in the first team this season, while just a week after announcing his retirement from the professional game there is a spot for Dan Fish as fly-half cover.

Cardiff: Matthew Morgan, Jason Harries, Rey Lee-Lo, Max Llewellyn, Hallam Amos, Jarrod Evans, Lloyd Williams; Corey Domachowski, Kirby Myhill, Dmitri Arhip, Matthew Screech, Rory Thornton, Josh Turnbull (c), Will Boyde, James Ratti

Replacements: Kris Dacey, Bradley Thyer, Will Davies-King, Teddy Williams, Shane Lewis-Hughes, Ellis Bevan, Dan Fish, Garyn Smith
