Cardiff stayed top of the Indigo Group Premiership Cup’s East Pool with a bonus point win at a rain-soaked Ebbw Vale on Saturday, bouncing back well from the loss against Newport last week.
Steve Law had overhauled the starting XV somewhat, introducing the likes of Theo Bevacqua, Iestyn Harris, Will Davies-King, Teddy Williams and Gwilym Bradley to the pack who all have first team experience, while Ioan Evans and Tom Hoppe beefed up the centre with Dan Fish calling the shots from fly-half.
It paid dividends as the Blue and Blacks built from a Jacob Beetham penalty and saw Ebbw Vale receive a yellow card before Iestyn Harris and Gwilym Bradley went over for a try apiece. Beetham added one conversion and the Steelmen bagged a penalty of their own to make the score 3-15 at the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern as Will Davies-King went over for Cardiff before Ebbw received a second yellow card of the game. Iestyn Harris’ second try essentially secured the victory with Beetham converting again as the Rags ran out 3-27 winners.
An excellent response from the Blue and Blacks heading into a big home clash against Pontypridd on Friday night at the Arms Park.
