In incredibly sad news former Bridgend, Glamorgan Wanderers, Cardiff and Wales flanker Owain Williams has passed away at the age of 56.
Originally from Ogmore, Williams started his career with the Wanderers before spending time in Australia where he played for Queensland, ahead of returning to Wales to play for Bridgend. It was during this time he would win his Wales cap playing against Namibia in 1990.
In 1992 he switched to Cardiff where Williams spent the rest of his career making 221 appearances and scoring 41 tries until his retirement in 2001. Honours included the 1994 and 1997 Welsh Cups, and he was also a member of the Blue and Blacks squad that made the final of the inaugural Heineken Cup in 1995/96.
The thoughts of all supporters are no doubt with Owain’s son Teddy, a first team squad member at the Arms Park, and the rest of his family.
