Cardiff scrum-half Lewis Jones has gone to the Dragons on a short-term loan for the start of the United Rugby Championship season.

The 28-year-old started his career at Beddau, briefly playing for Pontypridd before being signed by the Cardiff Academy and making his debut against Ospreys in an Anglo-Welsh Cup game in 2011.

Jones has gone on to make 120 appearances in all competitions, as well as 23 outings for the Rags, scoring 12 first team and seven Rags tries, largely backing up Lloyd and Tomos Williams.

He will compete with Rhodri Williams and former Cardiff scrum-half Tavis Knoyle for the nine jersey at Rodney Parade with Gonzalo Bertranou away on Argentina duty at The Rugby Championship.
