Cardiff’s BUCS Super Rugby sides discover fixtures

The fixtures for the 2021/22 BUCS Super Rugby season have been released as top end University rugby returns for the first time since early 2020.

Cardiff University and Cardiff Metropolitan University will both field their 1st XV sides in the competition once again after differing 2019/20 campaigns which saw the Uni finish second from bottom thanks to a last day losing bonus point against Exeter, while Met were set to head into the play-offs only for the coronavirus pandemic to cut the season short.

The competition will get underway on Wednesday 29th September with both sides welcoming opposition from the North East of England as Uni host Northumbria while the Met host Durham.

There is a first Cardiff derby of the season in round two, before the return derby takes place in the now traditional slot of 15th December, the last week of games before the Christmas break.

With Swansea also in the competition there is a chance for Cardiff to get an advantage before next April’s Welsh Varsity match too, with a trip West on 3rd November before the Green and Whites come to the capital on 2nd February.
