Cardiff U18s overcame Scarlets U18s in a tense game at Parc y Scarlets on Wednesday night to maintain the 100% record in this series of games also including Dragons U18s.
In tough Llanelli weather it was the away side who headed into an early lead after a superb solo score from Mackenzie Martin, before Jacob Symes chipped ahead cleverly for Ty Lewis to score.
Scarlets got back into the game through a strong driving maul, but the away side maintained a good advantage on the scoreboard when captain Ryan Wilkins scooped up a loose ball to go over, and then Zak Fifield touched down after Cameron Winnett’s break and kick followed by Ethan Fackrell’s hack ahead.
Cardiff couldn’t quite control proceedings in the second half though as a quick tap penalty saw the hosts go over, before a second driving maul try and then a score from a chip in behind while Martin was in the sin bin allowed the West Walians to take the lead.
Fortunately the visitors got back in front through a Harrison James penalty and then some better game management in the closing stages saw a 28-29 win confirmed going into Monday’s final game against Dragons U18 at Merthyr.
