First team departures confirmed

Cardiff Blues have announced the departures of three players as the 2020/21 season comes to a close and eyes turn to next year.

Hooker Ethan Lewis leaves after seven years at the club, playing 60 times for the first team and 74 times for the Rags, scoring nine tries in total. The 27-year-old has recently been on loan at Saracens in the Greene King Championship and will depart at the imminent end of his contract.

Academy back rower Ioan Rhys Davies is heading for an opportunity in France having not signed a senior deal this summer. The six-cap Wales U20 international made a single appearance for the first team in the game against Uruguay in November 2018.

Fellow Academy member, full-back Ioan Davies, was a standout player during the 2019 World Rugby U20 Championship and went on to play 14 times for the Rags before making two Guinness Pro14 appearances against Edinburgh and Ospreys either side of the covid-19 pandemic. Recently on loan at the Dragons he is expected to sign permanently for Dean Ryan’s side shortly.

Cardiff have also confirmed the departure of Academy tighthead prop Ben Warren, who has previously announced a move to the Ospreys, as well as Robin Sowden-Taylor from his role as Head of Strength & Conditioning to pursue business interests outside rugby.

Finally, Gruff Parsons has left his role as first team physio. The man who worked closely with Ellis Jenkins during his long injury lay-off has departed to be Head of Medical Services at a club closer to his London home.

Best of luck to all for the future!
