Botham and Morgan in line for Munster trip

Cardiff Blues are expected to welcome back James Botham and Matthew Morgan into the squad for this Friday’s trip to Munster in the Rainbow Cup, 7.35pm kick-off.

Neither player has featured in the competition thus far, with Matthew Morgan having been ruled out by a groin problem while James Botham was in line to start against the Dragons but picked up a calf problem in the days before the game.

Botham will definitely feature at Thomond Park, and is expected the wear the seven jersey alongside Josh Turnbull and James Ratti in the back row, while Morgan still has a fitness test to pass before his involvement can be confirmed.

Elsewhere, Cardiff director of rugby Dai Young has confirmed that Josh Adams will travel to Ireland on Friday in what is likely to be his last game before joining up with the British and Irish Lions squad, saying “He is eager to play. It’s a difficult situation because you want to make sure the boys get on the plane to South Africa fit but they are also fully aware they can’t be wrapped up in cotton wool and need to hit the ground running so they also need to play.”
