Cardiff Blues outside back Owen Lane’s 2021/22 domestic season is over after he was suspended for three games following the red card he received against the Dragons.
The 23-year-old was sent from the field early in the second half for a shoulder charge on opposition scrum-half Gonzalo Bertranou, the first card he has been shown in his senior professional career to-date.
Judicial Officer Rory Bannerman (SRU) concluded that a mid-range act of foul play had occurred, carrying a six-week suspension. With an early admission of guilt and a clean disciplinary record the full mitigation was applied bringing the punishment down to three weeks.
As a result Lane will not be available for any of the remaining Cardiff fixtures away at Scarlets and Munster, and home to Zebre, but will be free to play should he be selected in the Wales squad for this summer’s internationals.
