Cardiff Blues hooker Ethan Lewis has joined Greene King Championship side Saracens on loan for the 2020/21 season.

The 26-year-old will compete with Tom Woolstencroft, USA international Kapeli Pifeleti and England international Jamie George for the number two jersey over the next two months as Mark McCall’s men seek an immediate return to the Gallagher Premiership.

Lewis has made 60 Cardiff Blues appearances since making his debut during the 2014/15 campaign, and has also appeared 74 times for the Rags since his first game in 2012. So far this season he has made nine appearances in all competitions, most recently in the home encounter with the Scarlets.

He could make his debut this weekend as Saracens welcome Jersey Reds to the StoneX Stadium, looking to bounce back from the opening day defeat at the hands of Cornish Pirates.

Speaking to the Cardiff Blues official website, Dai Young said “It’s a fantastic opportunity for Ethan to head to Saracens and gain valuable game-time in a competitive environment and league.

“With a couple of boys returning from injury recently, there is a lot of competition for the number two jersey here and with the current situation limiting game-time for the wider squad, this opportunity presented itself and will be beneficial for all parties. We wish Ethan and Saracens all the best for the rest of the campaign.”
