Cardiff Blues centre Garyn Smith will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery for the knee ligament damage sustained against Ospreys last week.
The 25-year-old was stretchered off after sustaining the injury towards the end of the game when defending a maul, and is set to be sidelined for six months that will mean he is in the stands for the rest of the 2021/22 campaign.
There is better news elsewhere as Richard Hodges revealed this week that back row pair Josh Navidi and Ellis Jenkins have trained fully with the squad. Navidi (concussion) has been missing since the start of the season and could feature against the Stade Francais next weekend, while Jenkins (knee) has now been out for 26 months but his aiming to return at the end of January.
Jarrod Evans is back in contention for Saturday’s game as well, having missed the loss to Ospreys last week, but there was no update on James Botham who withdrew from the starting XV late in the day.
