Ref Watch: Frank the Tank

Posted by

Irish referee Frank Murphy will take charge of Cardiff Blues’ home game against Glasgow Warriors at Rodney Parade on Sunday night, 7.35pm kick-off.

The former Munster, Connacht and Leicester Tigers scrum-half is back at Rodney Parade after his last outing in the Guinness Pro14 came in Newport, refereeing our bonus point win over Benetton two weeks ago.

This will be Murphy’s 40th game in the Pro14, having made his debut back in November 2016 when the Dragons beat Edinburgh, also at Rodney Parade. Since then he has also taken charge of 17 European games across the Heineken Cup and Challenge Cup.

Altogether he has been in the middle for 10 Cardiff Blues games, with seven wins coming from those. He has taken charge of seven Glasgow Warriors games with five wins for the Scottish side.

So far this season he has refereed three games, all home wins, showing five yellow cards in the process.

Murphy will be assisted by Ian Davies and Mike English, with Rhys Thomas acting as Television Match Official.
