Cardiff Blues’ Guinness Pro14 round two clash with Connacht at Rodney Parade will be refereed by Italian official Gianluca Gnecchi, in just his second game in the competition.
The Brescia man has previously run the line for Marius Mitrea and Andrea Piardi in both domestic and European competition, but made the move into the middle back in August when he took charge of the second game between Benetton and Zebre to round off the 2019/20 campaign.
He handed out one yellow card to the side from Treviso, the away team on the day, as they secured a 9-16 victory to bounce back from defeat the week before.
Gnecchi has been a familiar face in Italy’s domestic competition, the Top12, and has also experienced international competition during the U20 Six Nations.
He will be assisted by young Welsh referees Craig Evans and Adam Jones, while Jon Mason will act as the television match official.
