Cardiff Blues lock/back rower Josh Turnbull has been banned for three weeks after the red card he received in last week’s win over Zebre.
He was sent from the field in the 43rd minute after high tackle on Italian flanker Maxime Mbanda, making shoulder contact with his chin after the home player had carried and passed just before contact. The TMO flagged the incident to referee George Clancy who sent Turnbull off, the first red card of his career.
The Judicial Officer Tommy Dalton of Ireland decided the tackle was a mid-range offence, as is the mandatory minimum for all contacts with the neck or head, with the entry point being a six week ban. Turnbull’s acknowledgement of the offence, compliance throughout the process and remorse shown justified mitigation of 50%, meaning he will be banned for a period of three weeks.
The 32-year-old will miss upcoming games against Connacht, Munster and Ulster, returning for the away game at Edinburgh on Monday 9th November.
