Cardiff Blues get the 2020/21 season underway with a trip to Parma to face Zebre at the Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi on Friday evening, 6pm kick-off.
The game will be refereed by Irishman George Clancy in his 127th Guinness Pro14 game, having made his debut back in November 2004 with a Borders v Dragons fixture in Scotland.
He has refereed Cardiff Blues 27 times in all competitions, with us winning just none of those games. However, the most recent win was the last time we played Zebre, the 37-0 home victory in November 2018.
Clancy was also in charge the last time we headed to Parma, when we blew an early 0-21 lead to lose 24-26 thanks to a last minute Oliviero Fabiani try.
Since the restart he has refereed to just one game, Leinster’s 10-28 win over Ulster at the Aviva Stadium, during which he did not issue a card.
Clancy will be assisted by Federico Vedovelli and Riccardo Angelucci, while Stefano Penne will act as the Television Match Official, as local officials are used due to the coronavirus pandemic.
