Assiratti heads on loan to Bristol

Cardiff Blues tighthead prop Keiron Assiratti has joined Bristol Bears on a short-term loan as injury cover through to the end of the current Gallagher Premiership campaign.

The 23-year-old will arrive at Ashton Gate with John Afoa and Jake Armstrong both suffering from injuries, and will battle with British and Irish Lion Kyle Sinckler for the number three jersey starting with Saturday’s game away at Sale Sharks.

So far in his career the Wales U20 international has made 39 appearances in all competitions for Cardiff Blues, including coming off the bench against Scarlets last weekend where he helped to win three scrum penalties in the second half.

Assiratti could potentially miss the start of the 2020/21 Guinness Pro14 season while at Bristol, with the proposed start on the first weekend of October the same as the last round of Premiership matches in the 2019/20 season, while if Pat Lam’s side were to make the Final then that would take place three weeks later.

He could also be in line to face the familiar faces of the Dragons, with Bristol due to face the Welsh side in the quarter-final of the European Challenge Cup on Friday 18th September.
