Cardiff Blues scrum-half Tomos Williams will undergo surgery on the shoulder injury suffered in Saturday’s loss away to Scarlets.
The 25-year-old left the field early in the second half after jarring his shoulder when tackled by Johnny McNicholl, although John Mulvihill played down the seriousness of any damage after the game.
However, in a statement put out on Wednesday, Cardiff Blues confirmed that Williams will go under the knife after specialist orthopaedic consultation and be out of action for an estimated three-to-four months.
It means that the scrum-half will miss the truncated conclusion of the 2019/20 Guinness Pro14 season, the start of the 2020/21 campaign and the elongated Autumn International window including the end of the 2020 Guinness Six Nations and the eight-team exhibition tournament.
