Cardiff University RFC will play in the 2020/21 BUCS Super Rugby competition after surviving relegation in the last round of fixtures.
The red and blacks managed to earn a losing bonus point in their final game of the season at home to high-flying Exeter last Wednesday, going down 17-20 at the Arms Park.
That result didn’t matter in the end though as Cardiff Met RFC did their city rivals a favour thanks to a stunning second half up at Kingston Park in Newcastle which saw them overcome Northumbria and send them into the relegation play-off.
The Archers were 19-14 down at the break on Friday night, but seven tries in the second 40 earned them a huge 19-64 victory and sent them into the quarter-finals with the confidence of winning their last two games of the regular season.
Exact details of the knockout stages will be confirmed once all postponed games have been played, but it seems likely Cardiff Met will host Loughborough in the quarter-finals.
