Cardiff Blues U18 go for Regional Age Grade title against Scarlets U18

Cardiff Blues U18 go for the Regional Age Grade Championship title tonight as they host Scarlets U18 at Sardis Road in the last game of the season, kick-off 7.30pm.

It’s been a successful season for the team led by Aled James and Craig Everett, who have done the double over RGC and Dragons to keep them in contention at the top of the league throughout the campaign.

However, defeats away at Ospreys at the end of the first block of fixtures and then at home against the same opposition in tough conditions last week have sent the season down to the wire, with Scarlets staying in the hunt throughout.

Cardiff Blues secured a comfortable 7-48 win at Parc y Scarlets at the start of this second fixture block just a few weeks ago, but the team that runs out in Pontypridd will be very different to that which won in Llanelli.

A weekend in Scotland saw the U18s enjoy a positive run-out against their national U18 side on Sunday, with James and Everett opting to rotate the squad and give others opportunities as they return to South Wales.

Only Rhys Anstey and Theo Cabango remain in the starting XV from that first clash against the Scarlets, with a number of players getting their first run-out in the RAG in this second block of fixtures.

As things stand Cardiff Blues are on 24 points with a +99 points difference, while Scarlets are on 21 points with a -13 points difference.

If Cardiff Blues win or the game ends in a draw then we will be champions, if Cardiff Blues get two bonus points in defeat then we will be champions, or if Cardiff Blues get a losing bonus point and Scarlets fail to get a try bonus point then we will be champions.

Otherwise it will be Scarlets who lift the trophy at the end of the game in what is essentially a Final at Sardis Road. Coverage will be provided by S4C’s Rygbi Pawb from 7.15pm via their Facebook page.
