James Ratti is now an official member of the Cardiff Blues squad at the Arms Park after signing a full-time following his impressive performances this season.

The 22-year-old is an Ospreys Academy graduate, making 13 appearances for the West Wales side between 2016 and 2019, until he was released last summer. He also featured for Aberavon and Swansea in the Indigo Group Premiership during that time.

A former Wales U20 cap, Ratti was picked up by Cardiff RFC before the start of this season, standing out in eight games across the first three months of the campaign as the Blue and Blacks went unbeaten and stormed to the top of the league.

While with the RFC he was also training full-time with Cardiff Blues and he impressed enough to make his debut away at Calvisano in November, going on the appear in seven of the following eight games including each of the Welsh derbies over Christmas.

His workrate around the field has impressed coaches and supporters alike at the Arms Park and Ratti has now been rewarded with a long-term Cardiff Blues contract, telling the official website, “I’m absolutely delighted to have been given this contract.

“When I signed for Cardiff RFC in the summer, it was always with the view of pushing onto the Blues and I’ve been really pleased with the way it has worked out.

“I’ve put in a lot of work but I am really grateful to the coaches at both Cardiff RFC and Cardiff Blues for giving me the chance and now I am just determined to repay the faith of John and the other coaches at the Blues.

“I am really enjoying my rugby and the culture and camaraderie here has been hugely impressive. We already have a really competitive squad but it is also one that is young and only going to develop and improve. Hopefully I can continue to play my part both on and off the pitch as we push on.”
