Cardiff RFC’s game against Swansea this weekend could be at risk after the Whites’ game against Aberavon was called off due to a mumps outbreak.
Two members of their squad have contracted the highly contagious illness, which has seen outbreaks around the city already after five cases were diagnosed at Swansea University late last year.
The call to postpone the game against the Wizards was made late on Saturday morning with Swansea RFC now keeping tabs on whether any other cases surface within the squad.
If the outbreak is contained to two players then the game may well go ahead this weekend, but if more are diagnosed then the likelihood is that the Whites will continue not to train and the fixture will be called off on medical grounds.
Cardiff RFC are due to take on Swansea at St Helens on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm. There are still places on the supporters’ bus, contact Hugh Campbell for details.
