Cardiff RFC centre Sam Beard is set to leave the club and return to professional rugby after signing with Major League Rugby side the New England Free Jacks.
The 29-year-old only arrived at the Arms Park over the summer having previously played for Bay of Plenty, Dragons and Edinburgh, with his most recent having been Canterbury in the Mitre10 Cup.
Having taken up a job at Wycliffe College in Gloucestershire he joined the Blue and Blacks, where he has scored two tries in five games so far this season. He also featured for Cardiff Blues A during the Celtic Cup.
Beard now joins the Free Jacks who are preparing for their debut season in Major League Rugby playing out of the Union Point Sports Complex in Boston, Massachusetts.
Team-mates will include former Connacht fly-half Tadhg Leader, Ireland U20 scrum-half John Poland and Japanese prop Kensuke Hatakeyama.
It is not known exactly when Beard will depart at this stage, but pre-season training for New England starts in December.
