Four changes in the Cardiff Blues team for Ulster

Posted by

Cardiff Blues head coach John Mulvihill has made four changes to the starting XV that will face Ulster at the Kingspan Stadium on Friday night.

Two of the switches are enforced, with Dmitri Arhip ruled out after picking up a shoulder injury in the loss to Glasgow Warriors, while Owen Lane has been called up to Wales’ Rugby World Cup squad in Japan.

In their place Scott Andrews will start at tighthead, while Jason Harries is set for his first appearance of the season after being a late withdrawal in the round one clash with Southern Kings.

The other changes are tactical as Liam Belcher and Kris Dacey once again swap places at hooker, with the former getting the start and the latter on the bench, while Nick Williams returns to the starting line-up and will captain the side from number eight.

To facilitate that there are some positional moves as Will Boyde shifts to blindside flanker, Josh Turnbull moves up to second row and Seb Davies drops down to the bench.

There is one new face on the bench as Kieron Assiratti will cover tighthead, potentially playing for the first time since coming on against Munster in April.

Cardiff Blues: Matthew Morgan, Jason Harries, Garyn Smith, Willis Halaholo, Aled Summerhill, Jarrod Evans, Lloyd Williams; Brad Thyer, Liam Belcher, Scott Andrews, Josh Turnbull, Rory Thornton, Will Boyde, Olly Robinson, Nick Williams (c)

Replacements: Kris Dacey, Corey Domachowski, Kieron Assiratti, Seb Davies, Shane Lewis-Hughes, Lewis Jones, Jason Tovey, Harri Millard
