Cardiff Blues hooker Kris Dacey will continue as club captain in the early part of the season as Ellis Jenkins continues to recover from his ACL tear.
Jenkins hasn’t played since sustaining the injury in the latter stages of Wales’ Autumn International against South Africa last November, and is not anticipated to be back in action until December at the earliest.
As a result Dacey will retain the captaincy, stepping in as he did during the second half of last season, with the support of a leadership group including Nick Williams, Garyn Smith, Owen Lane, Lloyd Williams and Josh Turnbull.
The 30-year-old reached 150 appearances for Cardiff Blues last season when he led the team out away to Munster, but that was his last involvement after sustaining a shoulder injury and undergoing surgery.
He is now back fit and firing for the new season though, having come off the bench against Bedford Blues in pre-season and taken full part in the Cape Town training camp over the last week.
