Injuries and unavailability have forced Cardiff RFC head coach Steve Law into making five changes to his side that travel to RGC in the first round of the Specsavers Cup on Saturday.
The Blue and Blacks are the reigning champions, after beating Merthyr in the Final at the Principality Stadium in April, and come into the game on the back of beating Pontypridd with the last kick of the game to get the Indigo Group Premiership season underway last week.
That was thanks to Joe Scrivens, who is one of the players who comes into the starting XV in Colwyn Bay as he starts at full-back in place of Edd Howley, while Barney Nightingale is named on the wing and Jack Brooks starts at inside centre, with James Beal and Sam Beard not travelling.
Up front Peter Lloyd starts at tighthead in place of Ollie Drake, while Sam Pailor is back at blindside with Alex Everett dropping to the bench.
They are joined there by permit player Lewis Frances, while Tom Habberfield returns from injury and could make his debut alongside Scott Andrews.
