Cardiff RFC have announced that Morgan Allen will be the club captain for the 2019/20 season at Cardiff Arms Park.
The 29-year-old will take over from Joey Tomlinson, as the hooker and captain for the last two seasons has departed over the off-season ahead of moving to Canada.
Allen arrived in the capital last summer having begun his career with the Dragons before playing for Scarlets and Ospreys, winning Wales U20 honours along the way. He had most recently played for Ealing in the English Championship.
Last season saw him quickly nail down the starting number eight spot, and almost as quickly become a fan favourite, with his talismanic performances gaining plaudits on the terraces at the Arms Park and beyond.
A superb 28 games across the Indigo Group Premiership and Specsavers Cup, 23 of which were starts, saw him score 15 tries as the Blue and Blacks finished second in the League and stormed to Cup triumph.
Speaking to the Cardiff RFC official website, Allen said, “It is a huge honour to be asked to captain Cardiff RFC. The club has a huge heritage and history and I am thrilled to be captain this season.
“I am looking forward to continuing the fantastic work of Joey Tomlinson, he will be a hard act to follow as well as a role model for me. Last season was a great season for the club and we have set the bar high again this year.”
“The squad has come together really well and there are some really exciting additions to what was already a great squad. We are really looking forward to pushing on again this season. I am very excited about leading the team out at the Arms Park – we can’t wait to get into competitive action.”
