Injury worries as new Cardiff RFC season looms

Cardiff RFC are facing some injury concerns ahead of the new Indigo Group Premiership season getting underway against Pontypridd in just 10 days’ time.

Head coach Steve Law will have to make do without winger Mathew Powell for the foreseeable future after he underwent surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament.

The 25-year-old scored seven tries in 22 games during the 2018/19 season after arriving from Cross Keys, but will now be unavailable for a number of months as he begins rehabilitation.

Then there will be some sweating done over the fitness of two new signings who appeared to pick up knocks playing for Cardiff Blues A over the weekend.

Scrum-half Tom Habberfield, co-captaining the side on the day, departed inside the first 10 minutes of the game, while another signing from the Ospreys, James Ratti, did not make it to half-time.

The Blue and Blacks head to Bridge Field to take on Bedwas in the final pre-season game this Friday evening, before welcoming Pontypridd to the Arms Park next Friday, live on Scrum V.
