Christ Tshiunza heads for Exeter

Cardiff Blues and Wales U18 second row Christ Tshiunza has opted to join the Exeter Chiefs academy for next season.

In yet another blow to the ability of Cardiff Blues and regional rugby in general to retain talent in the country, the talented lock will go into the system of the back-to-back Gallagher Premiership runners-up.

Tshiunza has come through the pathway in the capital, playing for Cardiff Schools, Cardiff Blues U16 South and Cardiff Blues U18, as well as playing club rugby for Rhiwbina RFC and attending Whitchurch High School.

He won Wales U18 Honours in the recent U18 Six Nations festival and has continually impressed all who have witnessed his development as a physical yet athletic second row.

At a time when Cardiff Blues and Wales are on the lookout for players in exactly his mould, Tshiunza’s departure is a huge disappointment but he joins a superb club in Exeter Chiefs with an ethos of developing from the Academy.
