Cardiff RFC have been linked with a summer move for fly-half Richard Powell, with speculation that Steffan Jones could be moving on to pastures new.
Powell has been released by Merthyr after two seasons at The Wern, during which time he helped the Ironmen win two Principality Premiership titles and a WRU National Cup, as they did the double in the 2017/18 season.
However he has found playing time restricted by former Cardiff Blues fly-half Gareth Davies and current Cardiff Blues academy member Rhys Davies during the back end of the season, and with Merthyr signing Rhys Jones from Ebbw Vale, his time at the heads of the Valleys came to an end.
The 30-year-old would link up with Steve Law again, should he make the switch to the Arms Park, after spending six years with him at Bedwas between 2011 and 2017, playing 129 times and scoring 1224 points in that time.
Speculation is that Powell would be a replacement for Steffan Jones, with the fly-half moving on after spending just one season with the Blue and Blacks.
He played 27 games in all competitions across the season, but due to the form of Gareth Thompson only started he only started 13 times, with just six coming after October and three of those at centre as Cardiff suffered with injuries in the last few weeks of the campaign.
As a result he may well move on in the search for more regular rugby in the peak years of his career at 28.
