Cardiff Blues second row George Earle has been linked with a switch to France’s ProD2 next season as US Colomiers Rugby are reportedly interested in his signature.
Local paper La Depeche are running a story that the 32-year-old is one of six summer signings the club have already made, as they look to do better than this season’s relegation battle, which only four straight wins in recent weeks have seen them to safety.
Since arriving in 2016, Earle has made 59 appearances in the Cardiff Blues engine room, establishing himself as a first choice second row after 88 appearances for the Scarlets in the four years prior to signing at the Arms Park.
If he departs he will join a club that were Heineken Cup runners-up in 1999 and French Championship Finalists in 2000, but that have slipped down the standings in the intervening 20 years. Current players include former Bath prop Kane Palma-Newport, while the Cardiff to Colomiers path was one travelled by Chris Czekaj in 2014.
John Mulvihill will then need to lock at adding to his second row stocks for next season, as only Seb Davies and James Down remain contracted as senior locks, with Rory Thornton not confirmed as signing permanently after this season’s loan.
