Another successful Regional Age Grade Championship season comes to an end

Cardiff Blues U16 North triumphed over their Cardiff Blues U16 South counterparts on last Tuesday night at Sardis Road to lift the U16 Regional Age Grade Championship trophy.

It is the second year in a row the fixture has acted as a league decider, with both teams coming into the fixture with 100% records, and the second season in which the North have emerged victorious to lift the trophy.

The South had taken an early lead through the brilliantly named scrum-half Gruff Tough, but North hit back with four tries before half-time through Ben Burnell (2), Amir Saleh and Cole Morgan.

A 26-7 scoreline was a hefty one to overturn for the South, and although a Charlie Jowett score gave them hope, the North held strong despite spending a long time down to 14 men to win the contest and the league.

Speaking after the game, Cardiff Blues U16 North head coach Lee Davies said, “They’re a great group and I’m hugely proud of what they have achieved this season.“They have a real ability to manage games and it is just exciting to be a part of this journey with them.

“Certain individuals I’m convinced will be professional rugby players. I’ve worked with a lot of talented boys down the years like Dillon (Lewis), Seb (Davies) and Jarrod (Evans) and some of these boys are just as talented.

“To have both Cardiff Blues teams in the final is a great achievement and moving forward the region has a very exciting future.”
