The Cardiff Blues v Benetton Rugby fixture scheduled to take place this Friday night has been postponed due to the inclement weather in South Wales.
A red weather warning for wind and snow has been issued by the Met Office for Cardiff and surrounding areas as the ‘Beast from the East’ arrives in this part of the country.
Concerns about the safety of supporters, as well as issues with Benetton having to fly in from Italy for the game, have lead to an early postponement to avoid anyone travelling unnecessarily in dangerous conditions.
This is the third Guinness Pro14 fixture to fall victim to the weather so far in round 17, with Ulster v Glasgow and Edinburgh v Munster already called off, and possibly more to follow.
No date for the re-arranged game has yet been announced, although it will almost certainly have to take place over one of the next two weekends with no other free weekends available until the end of the season.
With Cardiff Blues out of the Anglo-Welsh Cup there is space to play the fixture either on the 9/10/11 March, or 16/17/18 March, but due to continued participation in the European Challenge Cup, the weekend of 20/21/22 April is not a viable option.
Stay safe out there!
