Cardiff Blues European squad confirmed

Cardiff Blues have submitted their 41-man squad for the 2017/18 European Challenge Cup pool stage, with Sam Warburton the major first team omission.

The British and Irish Lions captain was ruled out for four months due to undergoing surgery on a re-occurrence of a long standing neck injury, and has subsequently been left out of the European squad, although Ellis Jenkins is named.

Scott Andrews has also not been named, although may appear amongst Bath’s Champions Cup squad list where he is currently on loan. There is scope for both players to be added into the squad at a later date though.

Openside flanker Olly Robinson, at the club on loan from Bristol as a short-term injury replacement, is included in the squad after making his debut against Connacht on the weekend, as are all other first team players including the injured Gethin Jenkins, Anton Peikirshvili, Gareth Anscombe and Dan Fish.

There are also nods for transition squad members Kieron Assiratti, Seb Davies, Corey Domachowski and Rhun Williams, as well as Owen Lane who is yet to make a Pro14 appearance.
