Scott Andrews joins Bath on loan

Cardiff Blues and Wales tighthead Scott Andrews has travelled across the Severn Bridge to join Bath Rugby for a month’s loan as injury cover.

The 13-times capped international will battle it out with Anthony Perenise for the number three jersey at the blue, black and whites, and made his debut off the bench against Saracens at the weekend.

Bath are currently struggling with injury problems seeing fellow tightheads Kane Palma-Newport, Shaun Knight and Henry Thomas ruled out, hence the need for 28-year-old Andrews.

Director of Rugby at The Rec, Todd Blackadder, told his club’s official website, “We’re really fortunate to be able to bring an international quality player into the squad in a position where we’ve been hit by injuries.

Scott comes with a great deal of experience, which I’m sure will be crucial over the coming weeks.”

With Cardiff Blues going through a mini injury crisis of their own, the decision to let Andrews, who has made 142 appearances in a Cardiff jersey, go to the Premiership club was met with some confusion by the Arms Park faithful.

However, head coach Danny Wilson moved to clarify his thinking by telling the Blues’ official website, “This is a good opportunity to give Scott game-time at a high level with Bath, while we expose two young, promising props in Keiron Assiratti and Dillon Lewis.”

Scott Andrews is expected to return to the Welsh capital ahead of the European campaign beginning in mid-October, in the absence of a loan extension.
